Project results and Impact
How many girls/women have been served by the project during this project year?
During the grant period, 10 women from Emmet and Charlevoix counties were awarded Hestia Educational Scholarships. Funds awarded were used for tuition, textbook and supplies costs, and childcare expenses. Financial support for childcare is crucial for mothers advancing their education and career opportunities. The EES Coordinator provided uninterrupted services throughout the pandemic by offering alternative methods for students to access assistance.
Goal of the Project
Did you meet your program goals for the grant period?
If yes, how do you know? Please describe any program evaluation you use:
If no, please describe current barriers and how you are working to overcome them:
The overarching goal of this project and the Education & Employment Services program is to improve the economic self-sufficiency of women in our community. Scholarships provide financial support to assist women advancing their education and employment opportunities, and pursuit of high-skilled, high-wage employment. Project success is measured by the completion of college coursework that leads women closer to their career goals. The program is evaluated through a survey question, “The EES program at WRCNM helped me meet my career and educational needs.” 100% of scholarship recipients answered that they experienced this support through the program.
Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?
If so, please share it:
A survivor in the WRCNM Transitional Supportive Housing Program was referred to the WRCNM Educational & Employment Services Program (EES). Once enrolled in EES, she was able to complete her CDL/Truck Driving Training which gave her the certification that she needed to be able to find employment to support herself and her family. Other recipients graduated this year in areas of Emergency Medical Services, Graphic Arts, Nursing and Business Management.
In addition to the Hestia Scholarship Assistance, WRCNM EES provided academic and career advising, job search assistance, resume development, assistance with interview and work clothing and community referral and advocacy.
Sustainability
Will this project continue?
If so, how will it be funded?
If not, why not?
The Education & Employment Services program at WRCNM has been critical for women across the service area and has provided valuable opportunities for them to find economic self-sufficiency and independence. The program will continue as WRCNM continually seeks funding opportunities to support the program through a variety of sources.
Public Relations
How did you publicize this grant?
Please list any examples.
The news of this grant award was shared with over 1,200 donors that received the WRCNM newsletter. In addition, EES program information has been shared through Facebook and Instagram, Petoskey Chamber of Commerce e-newsletter, website blog, WRCNM Annual Report and local newspaper press release.
Summary Comments
The EES program has been an integral resource for women in Emmet and Charlevoix counties for nearly four decades through a longstanding partnership with North Central Michigan College. This program has served thousands of women in the community and will continue to support women advancing their education and employment opportunities with the assistance of WRCNM.
