Project results and Impact
How many girls/women have been served by the project during this project year?
We have served approximately 300 women and girls this past grant cycle of June 01, 2024 through April 30, 2025.
Goal of the Project
Did you meet your program goals for the grant period?
If yes, how do you know? Please describe any program evaluation you use:
If no, please describe current barriers and how you are working to overcome them:
We are open every Tuesday at Good Neighbors Food Panty and provide a wide variety of feminine products for our guests. Each week we can see that our guests are happy to have these products available. Our shelves are stocked with tampons, panty liners, menstrual pads, bladder pads and depend style underwear. Our guests may choose any of these products. We shop each week to make sure we have all choices available.
Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?
If so, please share it:
We often hear comments about how relieved our women and girls are to have all of these products available to them. They don't have to worry about being at school or out in public and not have the proper protection if they have their menstrual period or an embarrassing bladder leak.
Sustainability
Will this project continue?
If so, how will it be funded?
If not, why not?
Good Neighbors Food Pantry is committed to continuing this important program and we would partially fund it ourselves and seek further funding opportunities.
Public Relations
How did you publicize this grant?
Please list any examples.
We have publicized this generous grant on our Facebook page, in our local Chamber of Commerce news letter and in conversations in the community.
Summary Comments
This grant has made an important contribution to the everyday lives of women and girls in our community. Having the security of personal hygiene protection products can provide a sense of security and confidence in women and girls as they go about their daily lives, whether at school, work or home.
We are currently seeing an increase in larger families with younger women shopping at the pantry. This is reflected in an increased demand for tampons and menstrual pads.
Going forward there is concern that SNAP benefits may become more limited and there may be changes in other benefits for low income families. We want to be sure that those facing food insecurity have access to personal care items without charge.
