Project Description:
Our concert is dedicated to orchestral works by women composers. The concert will also feature a very talented and emerging artist Karisa Chiu to be a violin soloist for this concert. The orchestra will post educational information related to the women composers and solo performer featured on this concert to share with area educators and families. Our music director, Libor Ondras will also conduct a pre-concert talk to provide concert attendees with the background of each composition and additional insight upon each of the composer's and their motivation behind each piece.

If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?
Classical music and composition has been historically, a male-dominated world. Women first came on the scene as either wives or daughters of established composers. Although the arts scene has started to see some signs of progress, still less than 10% of the American orchestras present music by female composers today. It is the responsibility of artistic directors and conductors to use our platforms to break the barriers of gender inequality in the classical music world. By featuring their works, we give the female composers voice, we facilitate the expansion of orchestral literature by commissioning works by women composers, and we empower girls and young women in the communities we serve to follow their passions and pursue careers in historically male-dominated fields.
How are recipients identified or selected to receive services? Is financial need considered?
The performance will be advertised through numerous marketing platforms. The number of concert attendees will serve as an assessment of the interest in the topic within our community. The pre-concert talk will provide opportunities for the audience members to ask questions about the topic. The GLCO will attempt to secure testimonials from some featured women composers with their feedback about the impact events like these have on their lives and creativity. The GLCO will track and collect the feedback from the concert goers after the performance through email and social media posts. The GLCO will use their social media analytics to also provide indications of followers attraction and comments.

How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?
The hope and intent of our orchestra's performance and included educational material and promotion is to demonstrate to all people that no matter what was historically thought of as only a man's career, women obviously can and should consider careers in music including those as being composers. Obviously, we hope that women inspired by our performance, would become future composers as well as active in the many career paths of music.
How will you evaluate or measure your success:
We will use audience counts, anecdotal feedback, social media analytics, and track visits and downloads from our educational materials on our website to evaluate the attractiveness of the material and performance to our potential audience. We are also contemplating some sort of invitation for students to participate by writing thoughts, reactions, and dreams regarding women in music including that of composers.
