Project start and end dates:

4000

Project Description:

Women will be invited to drop into a brave community space to slow down & begin to peel back the layers of social conditioning that keep us stuck in patterns of self-doubt, perfectionism & self-criticism. The 10-week series will include weekly, 2.5-hour sessions, led by trauma-informed facilitators Caitlin Ludlow & Ben Cheney, who have extensive training in mindful self-compassion practices, expressive arts therapy, embodied movement & somatic therapy modalities. Each week we will begin with a check-in & introspective centering practice. We will then move through experiential, evidence-based practices that support nervous system regulation, integration & embodiment. These guided practices include movement, drawing, journaling & self-compassion exercises designed by psychologist Dr. Kristin Neff. More than 10 years of clinical research support the effectiveness of these practices in addressing the challenges of mental illness and unwinding trauma stored in the nervous system.

Goal of the Project

How many people will you reach?

12

What percentage are female?

100

If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?

NA

How are recipients identified or selected to receive services?  Is financial need considered?

This experience is open to all those who were socialized as female regardless of where they fall on the gender spectrum. It caters to women who devote their lives to taking care of others – professionally &/or personally. It is for women who find solace in an organized class experience that reminds them they, too, are worthy of care. Each year we seek to fill this container with 10 such women who will join us for the duration. Because of the interconnected nature of humans, this type of authentic community-building experience will also impact those in the families & communities of the respective 10 women who choose to participate.
This grant would allow for a subsidized rate with opportunity for full scholarship for those who need it. Scholarship priority will be given to women from our Indigenous communities, & greater BIPOC population.

What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?

A woman who can offer herself kindness & compassion in life's most challenging moments is someone who can show up & offer that to her family, her co-workers, her community & beyond. This is life-changing & culture-changing work.

This project aligns with Hestia Giving Circle's mission statement 1) by supporting a young female entrepreneur (Caitlin) in her path to economic self-sufficiency as she seeks to grow her own body of work; 2) by bringing a diverse group of women together and empowering them to reclaim their sense of personal agency and well-being in these difficult times; and 3) by helping to build a strong, connected community of compassionate individuals around Little Traverse Bay seeking to heal, change our lives for the better, and stand up to the oppressive power structures we live within.

How will you evaluate or measure your success:

We will check-in with participants to gather feedback throughout & at the end of our series. We will track whether participants report that they feel empowered with tools to increase their capacity for self-care & kindness & whether they have begun to integrate & practice them consistently in their day-to-day or not.

Success will look like 8-12 women saying "yes" & showing up for 10 weeks of nourishment walking away each week feeling seen, held & deeply cared for. Success will look like women reaching out to one another in between sessions, forming bridges of support & accountability. Success will sound like stories shared about when a woman was able to pause & offer herself grace in a moment when she normally would have been critical.
