Kids Camp offers engaging activities, healthy meals and snacks and opportunities to play and explore the island and learn about the cultural landscape. Kids camp, art projects, and playtime play vital roles in supporting young girls’ growth and confidence. Creative activities give girls space to express themselves, explore ideas, and feel proud of their accomplishments, building self-esteem and resilience. At camp, teamwork and shared responsibilities foster communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Art and play also provide healthy outlets for emotions, helping girls develop empathy, flexibility, and self-awareness. Active play strengthens both physical coordination and mental focus, while group settings create a sense of belonging and community. These experiences help girls see themselves as capable, valued, and creative individuals, laying the foundation for lifelong collaboration, and well-being.

How are recipients identified or selected to receive services? Is financial need considered?
The camp registration is open to local families for registration beginning April 1 for 30 days and then it opens up to seasonal residents to register the summer resident children. We offer scholarship opportunities to the children who attend school on the island. Last year we awarded 4 scholarships.
What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?
The mission of Hestia promoting economic self-sufficiency and well-being for women and girls aligns closely with the goals of the Beaver Island Kids Camp. The camp provides opportunities for girls to build confidence, leadership, and problem-solving skills through hands-on learning, art, and outdoor exploration.
These experiences foster independence and self-expression, key components of future economic and personal self-sufficiency. By encouraging teamwork, creativity, and resilience, the camp helps girls recognize their abilities and potential. In nurturing emotional and social well-being, the program supports Hestia’s broader mission to empower young girls as confident, capable members of their communities.
How will you evaluate or measure your success:
The success of the Beaver Island Kids Camp will be evaluated through participant and parent feedback, staff observations, and community engagement. Surveys and reflection activities will measure growth in confidence, creativity, and teamwork among campers. Staff will document examples of leadership, problem-solving, and collaboration during activities. Attendance and returning camper numbers will help gauge community interest and program sustainability. Feedback from families and partners will assess the camp’s broader impact on youth well-being and its alignment with our mission to inspire independence, self-expression, and connection among young girls.
