Project Description:

Families in Camp Daggett’s core service area – the Char-Em Intermediate School District – are facing shortages in quality childcare options and the high cost of available care options.
Camp Daggett will continue its Day Camp programming in June 2026 for students ages 5-12.

Camp Daggett Day Camp will run Monday through Friday 7:30 am-5:30 pm over eight weeks beginning June 15 and ending August 14. The cost will be $325 per week for in-area campers - those enrolled in school in the Char-Em Intermediate School District. The cost for out of area campers is $425 per week. The cost for in-area campers is significantly less than for out of area campers because we want to keep camp accessible for local youth.
While overnight summer camp is long established and has several existing scholarship funds, Day Camp is a new offering that needs a financial boost! Our aim is to ease the burden of access to childcare and the associated cost. Last year, 11 families requested financial assistance.

Goal of the Project

How many people will you reach?

360

What percentage are female?

70

If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?

In choosing to support the Camp Daggett Day Camp Financial Assistance program, the Hestia Women’s Giving Circle is investing in families! Our day camp program serves as a community resource in helping solve a pain point for local families – affordable, quality childcare.
At Camp Daggett, we cultivate a sense of belonging where all campers feel accepted and appreciated for being their authentic selves. This inclusive environment is particularly beneficial for girls, providing them a safe place to grow and thrive. Hestia funds will help ensure that girls will have access to these opportunities, as well as to promote their leadership skills.

How are recipients identified or selected to receive services?  Is financial need considered?

Camp Daggett's Day Camp registration process includes a Financial Assistance Application that requests total household income, family size and a testimonial about what coming to the camp means to the family and child.

What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?

We are offering a Day Camp experience that extends beyond typical child care to foster the growth and development of the whole child.
The home base for the program will be the Camp Daggett Adventure Center and will expand into the 136 acres we offer and 1,600 feet of waterfront on Walloon Lake.
This indoor center is paired with our Outdoor Adventure and Ropes Course which includes 10 unique low-ropes elements, 12 dynamic high-ropes elements, a 40-foot-tall three-sided climbing tower, and a zip line.
All of the indoor and outdoor adventure education elements are designed to encourage growth and development of important skills, such as camaraderie, perseverance, goal setting, and teamwork. These are workforce readiness skills our campers take into future endeavors.
Aside from providing character building experiences to young girls, this grant would allow us to give families economic relief which helps meet the Hestia mission of "Promoting economic self-sufficiency and well-being for women and girls."

How will you evaluate or measure your success:

Following each week of Day Camp, participants are provided a survey to share impact feedback. We will gather information on how the program met the family's and the individual camper's needs and expectations and request a testimonial on the impact provided by financial assistance.
