Project results and Impact

How many girls/women have been served by the project during this project year?

During the grant period, 11 women from Emmet and Charlevoix counties were awarded Hestia Educational Scholarships. Funds awarded were used for tuition, textbook and supplies costs, and childcare expenses. Financial support for childcare is crucial for mothers advancing their education and career opportunities.

Goal of the Project

Did you meet your program goals for the grant period?

If yes, how do you know? Please describe any program evaluation you use:

If no, please describe current barriers and how you are working to overcome them:

The overarching goal of this project and the Education & Employment Services program is to improve the economic self-sufficiency of women in our community. Scholarships provide financial support that allows women to advance their education and employment opportunities, and pursue high-skilled, high-wage employment. Project success is measured by the completion of college coursework that leads women closer to their career goals. The Program is evaluated through a survey question, “The EES program at WRCNM helped me meet my career and educational needs. 100% of scholarship recipients answered that they experienced this support through the program.

Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?

If so, please share it:

A woman was staying at the WRCNM Safe Home and was referred to the WRCNM Educational & Employment Services Program (EES) through Counselor/Advocates on staff. Once enrolled in the program, she was able to complete her Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training at North Central Michigan College, complete the state testing to earn her CNA License, and find employment in the community. In addition to the Hestia Scholarship Assistance, WRCNM EES provided academic and career advising, job search assistance, resume development, assistance with interview and work clothing and community referral and advocacy.

Sustainability

Will this project continue?

If so, how will it be funded?

If not, why not?

The Education & Employment Services program at WRCNM has been critical for women across the service area and has provided valuable opportunities for them to find economic self-sufficiency and independence. The program will continue as WRCNM continually seeks funding opportunities to support the program through a variety of sources.
