Project results and Impact
How many girls/women have been served by the project during this project year?
Our goal for this project was to have a home completed for our client (a single-mother of three and teacher at Alanson schools) in the Fall, but unfortunately the delivery of the home continued to get pushed back due to COVID-19 related delays out of our control. The good news is that the home was delivered in March 2021, and is close to being complete. We look forward to this family being able to move in later this Spring/Summer at the end of the school year.
Goal of the Project
Did you meet your program goals for the grant period?
If yes, how do you know? Please describe any program evaluation you use:
If no, please describe current barriers and how you are working to overcome them:
While we are behind schedule, I do believe we are meeting the goals of our proposal. Our client has been approved for her mortgage and construction is to be complete Mid-May. This timing works well for our client as she will be able to focus on moving into her new home after the school year wraps up.
Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?
If so, please share it:
"Home ownership means being able to have more independence and permanence within our community. My sons and I have rented for the past seven years, first in a small two bedroom apartment (no yard), then with a larger, two bedroom home with a yard, and now have set the goal to have walls we can paint! Beyond that, building equity makes a lot more sense at this time in my life. I have found a job I love in a district that serves my family well. I’ve made friends and learned how closely knit this community is. It will be an investment I make for my family now, that will impact us for years to come. When I learned more about the [Habitat] home ownership program, it was something I felt I could really benefit from. As a teacher, I know that housing can be hard to come by - so it is a complete honor to be selected as a Partner for affordable housing in this community." Hope Roisen, Grant Support Recipient
Sustainability
Will this project continue?
If so, how will it be funded?
If not, why not?
Yes and no. This specific housing project will be complete, but our work continues with our next set of program partners. We currently have four single-mothers in our pipeline, and will be serving two this summer. Program sustainability comes from sales at our ReStore, funds returned to our Housing Fund through mortgage payments and homes sales, grants, and donor support.
Public Relations
How did you publicize this grant?
Please list any examples.
Support will be publicly recognized at a dedication ceremony that will be held when our partner officially purchases the home this Spring. Please let us know if you would be interested in attending the event. We will also thank all donors who supported this project in a Facebook post around the same time with photos of the completed home.
Summary Comments
We are so grateful for the support of the Hestia Giving Circle. We hope to continue to partner with you as we work to set women and their children on a path for long-term success, sustainability, and health.
