How many girls/women have been served by the project during this project year?
We had 16 girls age 7-14 registered as participants in the program in 2020. We also hired 5 young women from the local community, all college or local high school students, as Coaches to run the program.

Our goal is to help young women gain confidence and life skills through the game of golf. Research of girls in our age group indicates that their self-confidence plummets 30% between the ages of 8 and 13. We work to reverse that trend, giving girls the necessary tools to become successful women. It is difficult to measure the success of our program statistically, but we do see results in the incredible accomplishments our young women alumnae have achieved over the years.
Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?
If so, please share it:
One of our young participants, a fifth-grader named Anna, enjoyed her 2020 summer at Girls Golf and really advanced her golf and personal skills. Unbeknownst to us, during the winter, Anna applied for and received a $400 GO Grant (supporting opportunities for girls) from the Petoskey Chamber of Commerce to fund her newfound passion for the game! This was entirely her initiative. We are so proud of her, and she is so proud to be coming back to First Tee this summer with the support of her community behind her.

We did not publicize this grant in 2020. Sorry. We had to cut many expenses due to COVID this year.

We are so grateful to Hestia for the ongoing funding you provide. Our missions really do complement each other. We are well aware that there are many important needs in our community, so we are doubly grateful that you continue to make room for us in your philanthropic decision-making.
