Project results and Impact

How many girls/women have been served by the project during this project year?

Nine young-adult and adult women were directly served by this project in that they attended each week and were a part of the experience. We believe that an exponential number of women, girls and people in general were served by the work that these 9 women did within the 10 hours of our project.

Goal of the Project

Did you meet your program goals for the grant period?

If yes, how do you know? Please describe any program evaluation you use:

If no, please describe current barriers and how you are working to overcome them:

We sent out an optional follow-up survey to participants and received 6 responses. The survey asked how participants felt about the 2-hour length and 5-week duration of the series, the size of the group & if they would participate in something like this again to which the answer was unanimously "yes".

We received valuable insights into what participants would prefer in the future which was more time -- either in the length of the workshop or more weeks of the series. We interpret this as a sign that people are not only wanting, but truly needing experiences like this where they have time for themselves away from the many distractions & responsibilities of their lives.

Here is a direct quote from one of the survey responses: "The movement and art explorations were really powerful for me as opportunities to focus within myself and feel myself as I was needing this space for integration and self care."

Additionally, we know we met our goals as we had 9 women sign-up and show up each week. Of the 9 women, 2 identified as a part of the Native American community which was important to us as we wanted to make this experience accessible and welcoming across demographics.

Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?

If so, please share it:

With her permission, here are words that came directly from a participant after the first week of our series:

"I feel that this container will continue to invite my nervous system to gently transition from my typical sympathetic response when trying to embody being vulnerable outside of myself as I continue to strive toward healthier more sustainable behaviors/habits/reactions/responses.

I’ve also observed more movement/expansion while navigating emotions which has gifted more opportunities for emotional release (which I’ve really struggled with as a result of disassociation). The tears have been abundant but very much welcomed. I even experienced an instance of pure and utter anguish that surfaced but it worked its way out of my being through the loudest, deepest scream I’ve been able to release in years. Such a learning moment for me and [my daughter] as she was able to witness me in my pure human messiness navigate something so uncomfortable but then find true grace for myself."

Sustainability

Will this project continue?

If so, how will it be funded?

If not, why not?

Yes! We are planning for a 10-week series to begin on October 15th.

We hope to fund through a Hestia grant in addition to applying for a grant through Petoskey Harbor Springs Community Foundation.

Last year we received a grant through a special NMCHIR "Community Empowerment Project" initiative which as far as we know they do not have funding to offer again this year.

We hope to not have to charge participants as a way of ensuring accessibility, however, we are prepared to charge and offer scholarships for those who need it if we do not receive adequate funding.

Public Relations

How did you publicize this grant?

Please list any examples.

In our event description on our website we included this language: "This series is made possible by a generous grant received through Hestia Women’s Giving Circle as well as Northern Michigan Community Health Innovative Region. It takes a village and we are deeply grateful to be a part of this community!"
Additionally we named our gratitude for all those who made it possible for us to be there -- including Hestia Women's Giving Circle -- within the workshop experience.

Summary Comments

We would love to have Hestia members participate in this experience for the 2023 year!
