Project results and Impact
How many girls/women have been served by the project during this project year?
It is estimated that 60% of our visitors are female. Last year we had over 4,500 visitors in the Print Shop Museum where the Gutsy Women exhibit is on display. We are estimating we served approximately 2,700 women and in addition to the exhibit visits, we had a Gutsy Women event to reveal the 2022 exhibit with 36 women in attendance. We also awarded a $1,000 check to our young female intern who was responsible for the curation of the new exhibit.
Goal of the Project
Did you meet your program goals for the grant period?
If yes, how do you know? Please describe any program evaluation you use:
If no, please describe current barriers and how you are working to overcome them:
We maintain a guest book providing spaces for comments about the exhibits and experiences in our museum. All of the feedback was positive. In addition our sponsors have all concluded the Gutsy Women exhibit is a hit and look forward to the new inductees for 2023.
Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?
If so, please share it:
One of the Ladies selected for the Gutsy Women showcase was the indigenous grandmother of a young local woman. The young woman was invited to speak about the Native female history on the island was it was a personal morale booster and properly recognized her and honored the local clan.
Sustainability
Will this project continue?
If so, how will it be funded?
If not, why not?
The project will continue to be expanded. We will seek to add 4 new women each year. The project produces high quality posters about each woman and her unique qualities as a woman during historical periods and how they adapted their family and professional life to thrive in an isolated community on Beaver Island.
Public Relations
How did you publicize this grant?
Please list any examples.
We published exhibit highlights in our newsletters, on our social media and had a special exhibit reveal for the public.
Summary Comments
Thank you for supporting this worthwhile project. We look forward to partnering with the Hestia Circle again to help boost our emerging female leadership.
