Project results and Impact
How many girls/women have been served by the project during this project year?
In 2022, our Girls Golf Program served 14 girls aged 8 to 12. I'm excited to say that in 2023 (although the program has not yet begun), we are already at near capacity of 24 girls. Your grant, in part, allowed this program to grow via word of mouth. There is a potential to have to increase the capacity of this program in future years.
Goal of the Project
Did you meet your program goals for the grant period?
If yes, how do you know? Please describe any program evaluation you use:
If no, please describe current barriers and how you are working to overcome them:
Although we had hoped for a group of 20 girls in 2022, we were thrilled with the impact that was able to be made on the 14 that did sign up. As a means of measurement of success, we saw tremendous growth in these girls golf games as well as their confidence, respect for the game and self responsibility. In addition, another way to measure success is the retention rate. At this time (with still about a month to sign up), over 70% of the girls that completed the program last year are signed up this year and 2 of those families are adding a younger sibling to the program.
Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?
If so, please share it:
Although, I did not personally see this program last year, I was able to participate in School Programs this winter as we went into schools to teach golf in gym classes. On multiple occasions and in multiple schools, students from the Girls Golf Class would be the first to raise hands and answer questions about both golf and life skills that we were covering in gym class on that particular day. Initially, our Program Director mentioned that "she was in our Girls Golf Class" but by the end of the school program season, I was able to pick out those who had been impacted by our class without his pointing it out.
Sustainability
Will this project continue?
If so, how will it be funded?
If not, why not?
We will continue to run the program given the success that we've had. As a new Executive Director, I wish I would have known about this grant as I would have loved to apply again for 2023. However, we have been fortunate with donations and the sale of our Discount Golf Card this year and will have no problem funding it for this year. Given the specificity of Hestia's quest to fund women's/girl's programs, this is something that will be on my radar for future support as every little bit of support sure does help.
Public Relations
How did you publicize this grant?
Please list any examples.
Our Facebook page is our typical means for publicizing our programs and the supporters that make them happen. As I look back, I do see a few posts from 2022 regarding our Girls Golf Program.
Summary Comments
You support of this program in 2022 is so appreciated and as mentioned above a big reason we are seeing so much success with the registrations in 2023 as we'll nearly double our class size. Thank you for all you do to support women.
