Project results and Impact
How many girls/women have been served by the project during this project year?
Nine girls and Women were served by this project as either Scouts or adult leadership. This is the largest group we have been able to serve at one time in our week long summer scout camp.
Goal of the Project
Did you meet your program goals for the grant period?
If yes, how do you know? Please describe any program evaluation you use:
If no, please describe current barriers and how you are working to overcome them:
Each youth was able to participate in many outdoor activities and learn new outdoor skills as well as other non traditionally female skills. Some of these are welding, canoeing, climbing, archery, metal working, home repair, ecology conservation, camp cooking, kayaking, wood carving, and reptile study. Each young lady set up and maintained her tent and camping gear for a week. Every scout worked as a team to learn and execute a camp flag raising, a skit, a troop cooing competition entry, and many other events. The week was evaluated by a daily check in of the youth by the youth leadership and an end of the more formal end of the week survey by the camp staff.
each scout earned advancement in the BSA ranks and earned merit badges.
This served as an additional evaluation of the successes. The troop adult leadership committee conducted an evaluation of the successes and challenges of the week and the preparation for it. Some homesickness was one of the biggest challenges. We also discovered that the youth need to be taught to respect the knowledge and authority of their youth leaders more throughly before we head to camp.
Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?
If so, please share it:
One scout took the climbing merit badge and she was very nervous about trusting other scouts to preform her belay, which means provide the resistance so she doesn't fall, securely. She learned to trust and was shown that the staff would teach everyone and monitor them properly. She felt very proud and accomplished when she reached the to of the climbing wall which took multiple days and trys.
Sustainability
Will this project continue?
If so, how will it be funded?
If not, why not?
The adult leaders will continue to reach out to Grant giving organizations to help offset the costs to continue the year round prgram with the highlight being summer camp. We also work with the youth at an event to earn some of our funds.
Public Relations
