Goal of the Project
Did you meet your program goals for the grant period?
If yes, how do you know? Please describe any program evaluation you use:
If no, please describe current barriers and how you are working to overcome them:
The membership of Boyne Eta Nu Charities has supported a new pilot program at Boyne City Middle School that allowed 10 eighth grade girls selected by the Boyne City Middle School counseling team of Julie Sisson and Libby Pearson the opportunity to shop for new winter outerwear at Boyne Country Sports at Boyne Mountain.
On Monday, November 4, the girls shopped at Boyne Country Sports at Boyne Mountain where Boyne USA sold the outerwear at a 50 percent discount accounting for a contribution of $2,100. After making their cold weather gear decisions, the group headed to BC Pizza in Boyne City where they enjoyed the buffet provided at no cost to the group by Obie Wicker and his talented team – a $140 contribution.
The balance of the cost was funded through a $1,500 Hestia Women’s Giving Circle grant awarded in June 2024; $500 contributed by Eta Nu from Boyne City Harvest Festival booth work coordinated by Eta Nu’s Jeanne Marriott; and a $500 anonymous gift.
This is a true testament to a community of individuals stepping up to meet a need.
Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?
If so, please share it:
The evening after our shopping experience, the counseling office at Boyne City Middle received an email from a mom who shared this couldn't have happened at a better time, as she has been unable to work for the past 6 months and money is tight.

Summary Comments
Aside from the pilot program, the counseling office dynamic duo of Julie Sisson and Libby Pearson provide outerwear through the Winter Gear Program to about 60 students throughout the middle school. Eta Nu raised dollars in the community to support those efforts as well. The Doll-Loesel Foundation stepped forward with a $2,500 contribution; Korthase Flinn generously supported at with $500; Daifuku hosted an internal 50-50 raffle and extended a company match for a $300 gift and hand knit accessories made by administrative assistant Billie Zinke; and Industrial Magnetics, Inc. contributed $100.
This was a wonderful extension of Eta Nu’s roots in the Boyne area. Eta Nu is the philanthropy group and active boots on the ground of Dress For Chill which is a massive community outreach effort providing new winter outerwear for Boyne City Elementary, Head Start and preschool children. This year marked the program's 17th year. The project began after Eta Nu members learned that some children were being held inside during recess because they did not have outerwear. In 2024, Eta Nu members dressed 214 children and the numbers continue to grow.
