Project results and Impact
How many girls/women have been served by the project during this project year?
After a great year of serving 25 girls in 2023, our grant was to help us double the impact in 2024 and we were so close as we served 48 girls in 2024. We did this by adding a second session of Girls Golf.
Goal of the Project
Did you meet your program goals for the grant period?
If yes, how do you know? Please describe any program evaluation you use:
If no, please describe current barriers and how you are working to overcome them:
We were oh so close. We hoped to put 50 girls in our program and ended up with 48. We probably could have served more than 50 but wanted to ensure that the quality of our programming remained high and putting more girls in the sessions may have taken away from the coach to student ratio.
Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?
If so, please share it:
Our Girls Golf Program has historically seen the same girls participate each year and our hope in 2023 and 2024 was to move some of the girls in our program to a more advanced program which will bode well for the future of our girls golf teams here in Emmet County. I'm happy to say that so far in 2025, we have 3 girls that are graduating from our Girls Golf Program into our Advanced Program and about 6 that are going to play in our PGA Junior League Program. One of the girls (Amelia Biebuyck) went to the state championship for the Drive Chip and Putt Competition and narrowly missed qualifying for the Regional which is one step away from qualifying to go to Augusta National for the national championship. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Amelia there one day.
Sustainability
Will this project continue?
If so, how will it be funded?
If not, why not?
Yes, we will continue with this program and hope to refill it with new participants. Although, we will continue this program, small grants from organizations who love to serve the young women of Emmet County sure do help us make sure that we can continue.
Public Relations
How did you publicize this grant?
Please list any examples.
We posted this on our Facebook Page and also had a few representatives attend the awards presentation.
Summary Comments
This grant is so helpful in helping us sustain this great program and over the past few years, we've reimagined this program as a feeder into other programs that will help us develop the skills of these young women. I'm so excited to see the effect this will have on the golf teams and even more excited to see how golf will help some of these girls possibly earn scholarships. We are also thrilled this year to welcome the EPSON Tour players to The Highlands in June. We are going to treat our girls to a few clinics and possible playing opportunities with the Tour Players. Our 2025 application will have something to do with the Epson clinics.
