Our initial goal was to reach 175 women and girls. However, due to constraints in our broader funding resources, we were unable to provide the level of matching funds originally intended. To mitigate the impact of this shortfall, we partnered with the Health Department to secure additional resources from the Christ Child Society. This collaboration allowed us to meet the demand for lactation support materials, effectively complementing the support provided by the Hestia grant.

The Health Department will continue to collaborate with the Christ Child Society to provide resources and distribute lactation materials. As funding for the Great Start Collaborative becomes clearer, opportunities may arise to reinvigorate investments in lactation support.

Members and partners of the Great Start Collaborative and Family Coalition have been notified of the grant, the available resources, and the opportunities to access these tangible supports. This information is also being shared by the Health Department, with the Regional Perinatal Quality Collaborative and local doulas also kept fully informed.
Summary Comments
With Hestia's support, we purchased 115 milk storage pitchers, 120 manual hand pumps, and 3,000 milk storage bags. These materials were provided to the Health Department of Northwest Michigan’s Lactation Support Specialists and IBCLCs for distribution to their clients. Combined with the supplies from the Christ Child Society, these resources equip women with the tangible tools necessary to successfully continue breastfeeding while engaging in the workforce and community.
