Project results and Impact
How many girls/women have been served by the project during this project year?
NDYS serves around 500 students every week. About half of those students are girls. Because different students attend each week our numbers fluctuate, but it is safe to say we have served at least 250 individual girls. On top of the actual girls visiting our pantries, our students also bring home materials to share with the women they live with - moms, sisters, grandmas etc.
Goal of the Project
Did you meet your program goals for the grant period?
If yes, how do you know? Please describe any program evaluation you use:
If no, please describe current barriers and how you are working to overcome them:
We strive to provide the specific products our students ask for. Our volunteers are always building relationships with our students and asking them what they need. We add or change the products we provide constantly to meet the needs of our students. Even with the change of seasons we change to ensure students have their needs met. If our students want sunscreen and hair ties because it's getting warm out, that's what they get. If they like a specific brand or style of tampon, that's what they get.
Do you have a story of how your program positively changed participant's situation, behavior, or knowledge?
If so, please share it:
Our students are always so grateful for the items we provide them. One student in particular really cares that there is Dove bar soap available. It is simultaneously heartwarming and heartbreaking to see her face light up when exactly that is available on the shelf. It really is so simple to make a lasting impact, but that impact is not possible without the continued support of our neighbors.
Sustainability
Will this project continue?
If so, how will it be funded?
If not, why not?
We are asking for continued funding for this because the need truly never ends. The families we serve were truly still recovering from the ice storm on 2025 when the flooding of 2026 happened. When you're living paycheck to paycheck the slightest thing can throw your family off course. The weather events of the past 2 years have not been slight events. On top of the threats to SNAP benefits, our families are struggling. Grants like Hestia are paramount to our continued ability to serve our 16 pantries.
Public Relations
How did you publicize this grant?
Please list any examples.
While I know I recognized Hestia somehow, I cannot find the things I did. If Hestia continues to support us, I am committed to doing a better job going forward.
Summary Comments
As a grassroots organization, this type of funding is pivotal to our continued and expanding efforts. Thank you so much ladies!
