Project Name:

Little League Girls Softball Field Resurfacing

Project start and end dates:

June 1, 2020

April 20, 2021

Amount Requested:

$

5000

Project Description:

The current infield of the Carpenter Street Girls Softball Field is a safety hazard; it has not been properly overhauled in over 15 years. The surface is overly compacted and uneven, causing both injuries to players and flooding around the third base line and home plate.

The plan is to replace the current soil with a high tech playing surface. The project will also include new bases, and a proper backstop. This project will cost about $10,000 in order to be done properly.

We are also considering naming the Caili Mueller Memorial Field in honor of a former player who passed away last year.

The proposed improvements to the Girls Softball Field will make the field safer for the players and more appealing for hosting tournaments, (Caili Mueller Tournament).

Goal of the Project

How many people will you reach?

800

What percentage are female?

95

If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?

The girls will be the most impacted because they are the players. It is the field that they will play on throughout their softball career in Charlevoix and we want it to be the best, and safest it can for the benefit of the girls.

How are recipients identified or selected to receive services?  Is financial need considered?

This is and organized sport through Little League. It is the field dedicated to the girls teams.

What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?

By making these improvements to the Girls Softball Field be in compliance with Little League standards for safety, provide a visually attractive ball field, and most importantly, we will achieve a safer playing field. This will help bring a new passion to the City and to Charlevoix Girls Softball.

Our girls will finally be proud of where they play and will be proud to host tournaments. This will also make it a field to be remembered by the visiting teams and will make them want to continue to come and play here.

The difference it will make is all about the girls safety. Before this field would cut and scrape up the girls if they would slide on it, which put the fear of sliding into their minds. This can be detrimental to the learning and love for the game, because when they play at higher levels they will be forced to slide but will have that fear from this field in the back of their minds.

Overall, this will make the girls playing experience a positive one, which will help create life-long memories for all players.

How will you evaluate or measure your success:

We will measure success of the project by how our proposed improvements impact the level of play for the girls softball teams. There will be more play time and tournaments, with less injury to the players.
