Feminine Products for Women and Girls

Project start and end dates:

Amount Requested:

$

500

Project Description:

We will purchase feminine hygiene products for women and girls who visit the Pantry. During the pandemic, clients have not been able to shop in person, but we offer a pre-order form that can be filled out in advance and brought with them on shopping day. Along with food choices, feminine products are listed on the form. When we are able to re-open for in-person shopping we anticipate a greater demand for the products. We didn't anticipate the high number of requests for bladder protection pads and Depends-type undergarments, and they are the most expensive to purchase.

Goal of the Project

How many people will you reach?

866

What percentage are female?

50

If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?

NA

How are recipients identified or selected to receive services?  Is financial need considered?

All female clients who shop at the pantry can select these products. There are no restrictions.

What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?

We began this project a year ago with a grant from Hestia (see final report) and are seeking this additional amount to ensure that we can provide feminine hygiene products through this grant cycle. Our hope is that female clients who face food insecurity are able to focus their dollars on food instead of buying these necessary items or going without.

How will you evaluate or measure your success:

Right now, we are only able to offer these feminine products as needed or upon request during Pantry pick-up. As our clients are able to come back and shop in person, we expect that there will be an increase in women selecting these personal items because they can see what is available. We will continue to educate our clients about what we have available, and will track our expenses to ensure that we understand community needs and are responsive.
