Project Description:
Northern Michigan Equine Therapy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit outpatient rehabilitation facility dedicated to equine-assisted therapy using the healing nature of a horse as a therapeutic tool to enhance independence, self-confidence, and quality of life of our clients.
Our goal is to start our SAVA HorseSense program July 2021 to help survivors of sexual assault learn the tools needed to thrive in life after experiencing the trauma. The program is designed to use equine-assisted activities to help survivors work through common symptoms of trauma, such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, self-worth, and relationship issues. The horse partnership guides survivors through activities that promote self-awareness, communication, boundaries, and ultimately how to lead from within. The outcome will help empower survivors with tools to practice and learn how to overcome fear, recognize self-limiting ways of thinking, create boundaries that empower, promote self-esteem and confidence in relationships.
Goal of the Project
How many people will you reach?
50
What percentage are female?
95
If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?
Our SAVA HorseSense program is open to all genders yet the majority of our clients are women and girls seeking assistance. Nobody is turned down for services at our facility. All services remain the same and are individualized per clients' needs.
How are recipients identified or selected to receive services? Is financial need considered?
Fees & Payment Policies:
HorseSense Sliding Scale (our graph was unable to upload yet we are more than happy to supply scale upon request)
Fees: The standard charge for a 1-hour session is $125.00. A sliding scale is available based on the gross (before taxes) combined income within a household and your number of legal dependents. Please review the scale and fill in your payment amount at the bottom then sign.
Arrangements for payment plans and special pricing will be evaluated on a case by cases basis by the executive director of NMET. No one is turned away because of the inability to pay however all clients are asked to contribute what they can.
What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?
SAVA HorseSense Program was created to help victims of sexual assault move forward in life after the trauma. Our goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental environment with real-time experiences that help improve clients coping and relationship skills and enhance the overall quality of life.
The SAVA HorseSense program is designed to use equine-assisted activities to help survivors work through common symptoms of trauma, such as trusting oneself and others, PTSD, anxiety, depression, self-worth, and relationship issues. Horses make incredible teachers, listeners, and partners through the hard work of healing and growing. The horse partnership guides survivors through activities that promote self-awareness, communication, boundaries, and ultimately how to lead from within. The outcome will help empower survivors with tools to practice and learn how to overcome fear, recognize self-limiting ways of thinking, create boundaries that empower, promote self-esteem and confidence, and develop healthy relationship skills.
This program is designed to help women and girls thrive in life after experiencing the trauma of sexual assault. This meets Hestias mission statement of promoting the well-being of women and girls.
How will you evaluate or measure your success:
1) Show an increase in the number of women and girls served in Emmet and Charlevoix County through our SAVA HorseSense mental health program.
2) Using program data from pre-and post-surveys, we will analyze if our clients have seen increases between their initial therapy session and closing therapy session. We will know we are successful if their self-assessment shows at least two points of improvement. (some areas addressed in surveys - happiness, self-worth, coping strategies, communication, relationships, and confidence)
*We are happy to supply Hestia with more detailed information about NMET, our staff, and programs upon request. Note: our website is currently under construction to better represent NMET, our story, therapists and programs. Thank you for this opportunity
