Project Description:

This 10-week series will include weekly, 2.5-hour sessions led by trauma-informed facilitator, Caitlin Ludlow. It will offer women the opportunity to drop into a brave community container to slow down, regulate their nervous systems & begin to peel back the layers of social conditioning that keep women stuck in patterns of self-hatred, self-doubt, perfectionism & self-criticism.

We will begin each session with a check-in & centering practice before introducing that week's theme. We will explore the theme via experiential evidence-based practices that support nervous system regulation, integration & embodiment. These practices will include movement, drawing, writing, authentic relating, sound healing & mindful self-compassion exercises. Years of research support the effectiveness of these practices in supporting people to address oppressive internalized conditioning & unwind trauma stored in the body & nervous system.

Goal of the Project

How many people will you reach?

12

What percentage are female?

100

If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?

NA

How are recipients identified or selected to receive services?  Is financial need considered?

The circle will be open to all women with a specific invitation for those who devote their lives to taking care of others. This circle will cater to women who need an organized class to let themselves breathe & remember they are also worthy of care & that rest is an action (& necessary for our survival!) The target audience will be women who are frontline workers, caretakers, educators, activists, advocates, moms, survivors & generally those in need of support who are ready & willing to allow themselves to be supported. This grant would allow a subsidized rate with opportunity for full scholarship for those who need it. Scholarship priority will be given to women from our Indigenous communities, & greater BIPOC population.

What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?

I hope to achieve a co-created community container where women trust that they are safe & supported. Within this space, we can practice vulnerability as a necessary element of healing. There will be opportunity to empathize & unpack the many generations of inherited trauma that we face as women in our patriarchal culture. We will tend to our grief, anger, pain & love & [un]learn together in community.

A woman who can offer herself compassion in life's most challenging moments is someone who can show up & offer that to her family, her co-workers, her community & beyond.

This is life-changing & culture-changing work. A woman who can offer herself kindness, claim her desires & bravely take up space is someone who will stand up for justice, raise her kids to be kind & create the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible.

This project aligns with Hestia's mission statement in multiple ways: first, by supporting a young woman on her path to economic self-sufficiency as she seeks to grow her small business; second, by bringing a diverse group of women together and empowering them to reclaim their sense of being well; and third, by helping to build a strong, integrated community of individuals around Little Traverse Bay.

How will you evaluate or measure your success:

I will check-in with participants to gather feedback throughout & at the end of our series. I will track whether participants report that they feel empowered with tools to increase their capacity for self-care & kindness & whether they have begun to integrate & practice them consistently in their day-to-day or not.

Success will look like 8-12 women saying "yes" & showing up for 10 weeks of nourishment, walking away each week feeling seen, held & deeply cared for. Success will look like women reaching out to one another in between sessions, forming bridges of support & accountability. Success will sound like stories shared about when a woman was able to pause & offer herself grace in a moment when she normally would have been critical.
