Project Description:

We seek to support our young female leadership with a small stipend for undertaking this important project for our area youth.

The project is to support the young female leaders of a day-long day camp for the youth of Beaver Island. Two young women are being given the opportunity to lead, organize and implement a week of daytime activities for up to 60 children on Beaver Island for the week of 7/25-29/2023.

Goal of the Project

How many people will you reach?

64

What percentage are female?

50

If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?

The funds being requested will support a stipend paid directly to our two young female leaders.

The camp activities will not specifically be gender tailored, but the concept of this request is to enhance and support the young female talent and engage them with leadership opportunities to plan, implement and lead a week long day camp for up to 60 children.

How are recipients identified or selected to receive services?  Is financial need considered?

We have selected a young female leader from two organizations to lead our famed Kids Camp. Elsie Burton 21, will represent the Beaver Island Historical Society, and Marlena Cole 23, will represent the Beaver Island Community Center. They are going to collaborative plan, lead and engage the young camp participants and delegate to staff at both anchor institutions to help implement the camp itinerary.

The itinerary includes crafts, nutritious lunches, choral and STEAM activities including outdoor education.

What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?

We believe by empowering our young female staff, they will be encouraged to pursue leadership opportunities in the future. They will also be good role models for our young female students and impress upon them, they are strong and confident and pursue any dream they may have.

We believe by incorporating these basis objectives we will align with the Hestia statement of promoting economic self-sufficiency and well being for women and girls

How will you evaluate or measure your success:

The guardians, parents and staff will all be asked to participate in a feedback exercise. This may be as simple as a daily confirmation with the families about how their child is feeling about the camp activities and for the staff we will have a talk back session at the end to evaluate the outcomes, what worked well and what needs improved upon next year.
