Project Description:
We will install a bronze trail marker tree created by renowned artist Dennis Downes. In collaboration with LTC and LTBB, the project is designed to augment the healing space at Bluestem Meadow that includes accessible pathways, a labyrinth, educational signs, and new plantings to aid in re-wilding. The trail marker tree sculpture will not only serve as an incredible piece of art but also as a focal point of the space. The tree, indicating the way to the labyrinth, signifies how to “find your way” along your journey. In addition, the sculpture is a symbol of our commitment to preserving the land and celebrating the cultural heritage and history of the local Native American community. The goal of this project is to cultivate an intentional space to promote healing in nature for everyone who visits as we believe nature has a profound impact on our physical and emotional well-being. We are creating a place where people can find solace, connect with the land, and rejuvenate their spirits.
Goal of the Project
How many people will you reach?
1000
What percentage are female?
52
If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?
The funds will specifically target women and girls through the support of Bluestem Meadow Foundation, our 100% women created, operated, and governed charitable organization. Bluestem Meadow Foundation evolved from an initial project created by eight women (three sets of mothers and daughters along with two friends) in 2021. We have been very intentional about highlighting the pride we have in being a women-run grass-roots team made all the more special by collaborating with our daughters. Our initial project focused on establishing a labyrinth, accessible pathways, educational signs, and re-wilding a section of LTC's Viewlands property. Bolstered by our success, we worked to establish the foundation in order to expand our capabilities. We added two more women to the team, and are energized by the trail marker tree project. In addition, we have received very positive and touching feedback, directly to our team and also from LTC, from visitors to the labyrinth. The overwhelming majority of people reaching out with feedback have been women. This observation is another aspect that we believe support from Hestia aligns with our project as the majority of people observed utilizing the space are female.
How are recipients identified or selected to receive services? Is financial need considered?
Bluestem Meadow at the Offield Family Viewlands is free and open to everyone 24/7, 365 days a year. One of our long term goals is to collaborate with local groups such as counselors in schools, Women's Resource Center, and other mental health/wellness entities to host programs, schedule events, and promote health and well-being at our site as a way to spread the word about this unique and important space and service area residents.
Because there is no cost associated in visiting the site, financial need does not need to be considered.
What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?
What we hope to achieve is the creation of a very special space in nature that is accessible to all and promotes positive well-being. By intentionally creating and sustaining this unique space that is designed to nurture peace, solace, and healing among all members of our community- residents and visitors alike, we feel confident that we will reach our goals. We believe this space will make a significant difference in the lives of women and girls as it provides a beautiful shelter in which they can work through grief and stress to find peace and healing within themselves. We believe that nature has a profound impact on our physical and emotional health and inclusion of art in nature is the perfect marriage to promote a positive well-being. The purchase and installation of this trail marker tree also has significant cultural, educational, and symbolic meaning. We will actively seek opportunities for education and awareness of the significance of trail marker trees. This will also serve to promote pride and positive well-being. We believe our project aligns significantly with the portion of Hestia's mission statement related to promoting well being for women and girls.
How will you evaluate or measure your success:
Our success will initially be measured by the successful purchase, installation, and maintenance of the trail marker tree sculpture. In addition, we will seek feedback from our project supporters and visitors to the site. We are fortunate to be in partnership with LTC and they are another source we can use to measure our success and can provide valuable feedback. Once established, we can move forward on one of our long term goals regarding establishing collaborative relationships with other local groups dedicated to creating programming and other opportunities around promoting positive well being. This will be another tool we will have to gauge success and obtain additional feedback and data to evaluate our project.
