Project Description:
We are looking forward to the EPSON Tour coming to town in June for the Great Lakes Championship which will be contested at The Highlands of Harbor Springs. The EPSON Tour is the developmental tour for the LPGA and will attract hundreds of the best female golfers in the world (just one step away from the biggest stage in golf). We are fortunate to be able to partner with the Tour and expose our junior golfers and specifically our girls to these amazing players and role models. We have 3 events going on during the week which include a general clinic, a player's clinic and a special event that will include One EPSON Tour Player, 2 adults and 1 junior in each group on the brand new Doon Brae Short Course at the Highlands. Our hope is to use this grant to ensure that the girls from our program will not have to pay a greens fee and to provide a memorable tee gift for each of them.

If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?
We will offer our 14 spots to our girls first. Only if we do not have enough girls will we open it up to our boys. Although this is a small number of girls reached, this program will be one that will be remembered for the rest of their lives and could have a major impact on their motivation and love for the game of golf and the life skills it teaches.
How are recipients identified or selected to receive services? Is financial need considered?
Of our 900 participants in First Tee last year, just under 40% of them were female. We have identified several young girls who have the ability to play a full 9 holes of golf and many that can easily play more. Our pool of candidates for this opportunity will be those who are able to play 9 holes.
What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?
We use the game of golf to teach important life skills to all of our participants. We focus in on the key commitments of Building a Positive Self Identity, Collaborating with Others, Growing through Challenge, Pursuing Goals and Using Good Judgement. The Professional Female Golfers that we'll be pairing with our girls have all attained a high degree of success in golf and in life. We believe that time spent on the golf course (just under 2 hours) with these women will teach the life skills of golf first hand and provide an experience that will shape their futures. Even if our girls do not aspire to be professional golfers, they will be taught the drive and hard work that it takes to have success in anything. In addition, the game of golf is proven to not only provide healthy recreation but also be a great venue to do business. Young girls that learn to play the game and learn the values that are inherent to the game, we believe will have a competitive advantage in achieving economic self-sufficiency.
How will you evaluate or measure your success:
A few factors will be looked at to determine success.
1. Improvement from the girls - we are fortunate that this event is at the beginning of the season and we will have a chance to see if this helped them improve their skills.
2. We hope to achieve over 40% female amongst our participants in 2025. We believe that events like this might spur interest from other girls who haven't participated in the past.
3. We hope that the girls will build a connection with the Professional Golfers they are paired with. We hope to see continued communication between them.
