Project Description:
Northmen Den Youth Services would like to increase access to hygiene and feminine products for our 6th-12th grade ladies for the '25-'26 school year.
Goal of the Project
How many people will you reach?
562
What percentage are female?
50
If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?
Although our pantries are open to all students, we have found that girls have the greatest unmet need for personal‑care products. Hestia funds will therefore be used exclusively to purchase period supplies and the hygiene items our ladies request most, such as feminine‑scented deodorant, shampoo, and conditioner, ensuring these resources directly benefit female students. Additionally, all of the services we provide help ease a financial burden for families, especially single mothers.
How are recipients identified or selected to receive services? Is financial need considered?
Our pantries are open to all students. We do not ask for income information or proof of need. To make sure those with the greatest need know about our pantries, we coordinate with school counselors, who discreetly refer students they know are struggling. In our experience, this approach meets genuine needs and we have never found misuse of our services.
What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?
NDYS takes pride in offering a hand up, not a handout. Access to food and hygiene products addresses the most basic physiological needs, as identified in Maslow’s Hierarchy. Without these essentials, women and girls cannot begin to focus on long-term goals like education, employment, or personal growth. By meeting these fundamental needs through our pantries, this project directly supports the economic self-sufficiency and well-being of the young women we serve and their families. It creates the foundation upon which they can build stable, empowered futures, perfectly aligning with Hestia’s mission.
How will you evaluate or measure your success:
The success of this initiative will be measured by our students. At the end of every school year, we survey the students to see if there are any areas in which we can improve. We would like to see fewer students asking for different or more hygiene and feminine products in the 2026 survey. Additionally, our Den volunteers will know if the need has been met based on the questions the students ask. If the students do not have to ask us to add items, we will know we are successful.
