Project Description:

WRCNM’s Education and Employment Services (EES) program helps women overcome financial and personal barriers to education and employment. The program provides individualized support, including career guidance, job search assistance, and financial support for educational expenses such as tuition, textbooks, and required supplies.

Many participants face significant barriers, including single parenthood, underemployment or unemployment, and transitions from unsafe or unstable situations. Through EES, eligible women receive scholarships that enable them to enroll in or continue post-secondary education or training programs.

Participants pursue a range of educational pathways, including high-demand fields such as healthcare, as well as other certificate and degree programs that lead to stable employment.

Funding will directly support scholarships, addressing critical gaps not covered by traditional financial aid and ensuring participants can continue their education without interruption.

Goal of the Project

How many people will you reach?

35

What percentage are female?

100

If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?

NA

How are recipients identified or selected to receive services?  Is financial need considered?

Participants are identified through WRCNM’s Education and Employment Services (EES) program, which serves women in Emmet and Charlevoix counties. Many participants are referred through local partners or connect directly with WRCNM while seeking support.

Each participant meets individually with the EES Coordinator to assess eligibility. Priority is given to women with demonstrated financial need who face barriers to education and employment, including single parenthood, underemployment or unemployment, or transitioning out of unsafe or unstable situations.

Financial need is a primary factor in determining assistance and is evaluated based on income, family size, educational expenses, and overall financial obligations. Support is tailored to each individual to help ensure they can successfully pursue and complete their education.

What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?

The goal of this project is to improve the economic self-sufficiency of women in Emmet and Charlevoix counties by helping them complete education and training that leads to stable, higher-wage employment.

Hestia funding will provide scholarships that remove immediate financial barriers and allow women to remain enrolled in school or training programs. For many participants, even small gaps in funding, such as textbooks, childcare, transportation, or a portion of tuition, can determine whether they continue their education or are forced to stop. By addressing these gaps, the program helps women persist, complete their coursework, and move toward long-term stability.

Participants pursue a range of educational pathways aligned with their goals, including programs that lead to in-demand careers and family-sustaining wages.

This project directly supports the mission of Hestia Women's Giving Circle by promoting economic self-sufficiency and well-being for women. As women achieve greater financial stability, the impact extends to their children, families, and the broader community.

How will you evaluate or measure your success:

Success will be measured through both program outcomes and participant feedback.

The EES Coordinator tracks each participant’s academic progress, including enrollment, persistence, and program completion. Key indicators include the number of women receiving scholarships and the number who remain enrolled or complete their programs.

Participants also complete quarterly evaluation surveys to assess whether services met their needs, whether they felt supported, and their overall satisfaction with the program.

These measures provide both quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate impact and guide continuous improvement.
