Project Description:

I would like to offer immersive and targeted professional development for my staff. This would include a conference in Grand Rapids put on by the Michigan Association of Education for Young Children and also offer specific training catered to the new curriculum our school has purchased.

Goal of the Project

How many people will you reach?

32

What percentage are female?

60

If your program serves both males and females, how will Hestia funds specifically target women and girls?

This would, by and large, serve more than our staff of 5 female employees. This kind of training will help the 27 children enrolled and their families as well. We do not have a final roster of those children at this time and, the 60% female children plus our 5 female employees is an estimate.

How are recipients identified or selected to receive services?  Is financial need considered?

Financial need is considered. Our staff have different socio-economic backgrounds and it is important that each person has the same opportunity for the professional development. This will enable each employee to attend without the burden of using personal expenses for travel and lodging.

What do you hope to achieve? What difference will this make in the lives of women and girls?
How will this project meet Hestia's mission statement?

This will help the school by unifying the knowledge our staff have. With these classes they will reach the children easier and with the knowledge of the theory behind the practice and examples of real life scenarios. When staff are up to date on new teaching styles and research findings they stay on top of the best educational tools.

By attending the professional development our staff will grow together and form a cohesive bond that will not only help each individual feel more confident in their work, but also bring us closer together as a school. Each person has a different educational background and is varied in skill levels. By attending these conferences together they will be attaining the information at the same time and be able to collaborate on ideas and problem solving in regards to our classroom.

How will you evaluate or measure your success:

When the teachers enter the classroom after the training, they will put their knowledge to work making lesson plans, planning ahead for observation and assessment, helping with conflict resolution, and finding creative ways to engage with children at their level. Most importantly they will come back excited to share with the children and their colleagues.
